Is UPS Freight the same as TForce? ›

TForce Freight, a subsidiary of TFI International, is an American less than truckload (LTL) freight carrier based in Richmond, Virginia. The company was founded in 1935 as Overnite Transportation, the name it used until 2006 when it was rebranded UPS Freight by new owner UPS.

The carrier code for TForce Freight in the PARS system is 2205; so the PARS # on a shipment will be 2205 plus the nine (9) digit TForce Freight PRO Number.

Beginning May 1, 2024, TForce Freight LTL will no longer be supported through UPS WorldShip®, UPS CampusShip®, UPS APIs, or the UPS website. As part of this transition, TForce Freight is providing a new, modern Identity Management platform which went live on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 1pm Eastern DST.

TFI International has completed its previously announced acquisition of UPS Freight, the company said April 30. The UPS division, which is focused on less-than-truckload and dedicated truckload shipments, was acquired by TFI in an $800 million deal announced in January.

SCAC codes can be obtained from the National Motor Freight Traffic Association Inc (NMFTA), except those codes used for identification of freight containers not operating exclusively in North America, intermodal chassis and trailers, non-railroad owned rail cars, and railroads.

The SCAC code for FedEx Express is "FDEN". For Ground the SCAC codes are "FDEB" used with FXG Linear (or 96) barcode, "FDEG" used with FXG (FDX1D) Linear bar code or "FDEC" used with SSCC-18 (or 00) barcode. For FedEx Custom Ciritcal, use FDCC. For FedEx LTL Freight use "FXFE".

In the 1960s, NMFTA developed SCAC identification codes to help facilitate computerization in the transportation industry. Codes are assigned for almost all companies. The exception is for those used to identify freight containers that do not exclusively operate in North America.

On Jan. 25, UPS announced it had reached an agreement to sell UPS Freight to TFI International for $800 million. As part of the agreement, UPS and TFI are entering into a five-year contract where TFI will continue to use UPS' domestic network to move packages. The deal is to close during the second quarter of 2021.

If your shipment is 150 pounds or less, it's considered small package. If your shipment is larger than 150 pounds and up to 15,000 pounds, it's considered freight.
