Obstacles of Implementing Learn from Home Program for Junior High School Students: Teachers’ and Parents’ Experiences

The global pandemic in the last two years forces the education practitioners in Indonesia to transform the face-to-face learning to distance learning which is a massive change in a sudden time. This article discusses one study that address the phenomena. The study was conducted in junior high school to find the obstacles faced by the EFL teachers and the students’ parent/guardian when applying learn from home program during the pandemic. Online interview was used in the study for investigating the implementation of two teachers, one mother, and one guardian. The findings reveal that the teachers faced obstacles in students’ attitude evaluation, integrity evaluation, teaching duration, students directions, and uncooperative parents. Whereas, the parent/guardian’s obstacle was they couldn’t participate in the learning process maximally due to work schedule. Aftershocks of Modular Distance Learning: The Parents’ Lived Experiences

As educational system was hit by a global catastrophe, the introduction of modular distance learning outspread to sustain the quality of education towards the learners. To make this work, parents forced to embrace the new system of learning. With this, the parents were having a hard time on scheduling between their work and children's learning, and on facilitating the learning from home scheme. This study dug into the parents' involvement and attitude towards the modular distance learning system. The data were evaluated by interpretation and the method used in gathering data is qualitative. Content analysis allows researchers identify and analyze the correct words, topics, or concepts. The researchers conducted interviews to six parents from Badian, Cebu. The parents' involvement in this study were determined by purposive sampling technique. From the responses of the parents, the researchers developed three essential themes: (1) The Challenges, (2) The Time, (3) The Rating, (4) The Improvement, and (5) The Advantages and Disadvantages. These themes emphasized the lived experiences and battles of the parents in the distance learning system during the pandemic. The researchers were able to extract problems and meaning of consequences for parents' lived experience of MDL. Parents' talent in shaping their children's learning is not an easy job, rather it was found to be difficult. But additional colors were added to help shape it and made the children's future more worthwhile.

Response to Home Learning System Policy in Learning Indonesian Language

The emergence of the Covid 19 outbreak has affected various sectors in the world, including in Indonesia. The world of education is one of the areas affected by this outbreak. All levels of education from PAUD to tertiary institutions must implement the Home Learning System (BDR). Various obstacles arise with the implementation of this policy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the problems faced by teachers and students when implementing BDR policies. The method used in this research is interview and survey to describe social phenomena that occur through data in the form of diagrams taken from several students' questionnaires and teacher interviews. The results showed that the problems faced by students were difficulties in understanding lessons and network constraints that were also experienced by the teacher. Learning at home: Parents’ lived experiences on distance learning during COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines

COVID-19 pandemic has closed-down educational institutions and dramatically shifts the instruction to distance learning. However, students rooted from the marginalized families and from rural areas have limited access to technology necessary for online learning. Modular learning addresses this learning inequality by providing more inclusive access to education. This study explored the lived experiences of the parents who act as learning supervisor, tutor, and home-schooling teacher for modular learning during the health crisis. This research surveyed parents from the Philippines and applied Inductive Content Analysis. Distance Learning in Moroccan Primary School, Which Impact on Students' Parents

During the 2019-2020 school year, and from the beginning of the second semester, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced Moroccan schools to adopt distance learning. This has pushed those in charge of the educational sphere to use all available technological means to ensure pedagogical continuity and save the school year. Thus, the most used tools were: connected devices such as mobile phones, computers and tablets via applications such as WhatsApp and Zoom, and the broadcasting of courses on television channels. Parents are more involved in their children's learning process, as they are more likely to assist them in their learning. This article aims to investigate the state of play of this experience, and to highlight the reaction of parents to this practice, while shedding light on the obstacles that have hindered this type of teaching. To do this, we conducted exploratory research via an online questionnaire. The results, analyzed by SPSS 22 software, showed a great dissatisfaction of the parents and a marked demotivation of the learners towards distance learning. And that this teaching modality suffers from several handicaps that compromise its implementation.
'Digital Problems and Parental Support Among Thai Learners during Online Learning'

In April 2021, the 3rd wave of the covid-19 pandemic hit the whole country of Thailand. The majority of the schools decided to change from face-to-face learning to online learning. The abrupt closure of schools is mandated, and students are missing the time for playing with friends, social interaction for learning and development, and their daily routine of discipline in school. Parents automatically became vital learning agents at home, facilitating and assisting students in understanding how to continue learning, how to use digital tools, and how to maintain and support students in this manner. This study was a design of the parental support at home, the technicalities using distance learning of the parents and teachers, and other accessible online avenues. This qualitative method was purposely to explore and investigate further the experiences of parents, students, and teachers about distance learning and management during the Covid-19 pandemic era to obtain valuable insight and understanding of real-life experiences in varying situations and circ*mstances. A purposive sampling technique was used for data collection. Data were collected from seventy (70) Primary Thai parents and thirty-six (36) Foreign teachers falling in the inclusion criteria. Considering the COVID-19 restrictions, the data were collected via Google Forms and online interviews. The analysis of the obtained data focused on two (2) themes: (A) The digital problems encountered by Thai parents and Foreign teachers during online learning and (B) The influence of Thai parents on their children's academics during online learning. The findings of this study highlighted the areas in digital technology that Thai parents and Foreign teachers found difficulties during online learning. Internet connection and lack of knowledge on using platforms were found to be the top problems among Foreign teachers. The same problem was found among parents; having and giving all the other things concerning juggling around may help parents and children develop a sense of solidarity and comfort. The undertaking may seem overwhelming and daunting because families are experiencing pressures with additional financial stress and employment flux. However, the findings on the influence of parents on students during online learning were promising. Parents believe that their involvement at home responsibility is needed and significant. Among the good parental practices were expecting their children to do well in online learning and following up their children's classwork by asking what they had learned.

Parents' perceptions of distance learning during COVID-19 in rural Indonesia

This study was developed to investigate parents' perceptions and attitudes towards distance learning in response to many schools' closures due to the COVID-19. This research employed a qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of parents of elementary school students in the City of Gunungsitoli, Indonesia, determined by purposive sampling technique, totaling twenty-four people. The data were collected using semi-structured interview techniques and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. This study shows that distance learning or learning from home in a research context takes the form of online and offline learning. The learning approach implemented during the COVID-19 emergency must be lived and supported without other options for parents. Although parents do not have negative perceptions, distance learning has increased the economic, psychological, and social burden on parents or families. The lack of parental involvement and support in children's learning process at home is generally due to the lack of time and parents' inability to become teachers for their children. Actions to accompany and support children's learning process at home are carried out to provide internet packages, help children master the material, and participate in completing assignments or tests given by the teacher. The surprising finding from this study is the decline in children's learning motivation and cognitive abilities. Parents hope that distance learning is not extended.

Impact of School from Home in Teaching and Learning English for Young Learners

The objectives of this study were to examine the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English for young learners. This study employed a case study approach, which is an embedded single-case design. A set of questionnaires was distributed to twelve young learners in the fourth grade of an elementary school in Singaraja and one English teacher. The young learners in this study were selected with purposive sampling, where participants were selected based on their parents' and teachers’ consent. Furthermore, an interview was also conducted with one English teacher from an elementary school in Singaraja to obtain the supplementary data. The findings indicate that the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English had some positive and negative impacts. Therefore, this study ends with suggestions for teachers and parents during school from home.

Difficulties of parents with low educational attainment in assisting their children in modular distance learning during pandemic

A significant role was played by the parents of the students, who had to become homeschoolers within a few days without prior training upon the suspension of face-to-face education. This study investigated the difficulties of Filipino parents (n = 90) with low educational attainment in assisting their children in modular distance learning. In-depth analysis and survey were employed as research instruments to extract responses on the difficulties of parents with low educational attainment and how government should aid them during a global crisis. The study was conducted in Zamboanga City, Philippines from July 2022 to December 2022. Parents struggled to explain, elaborate, and understand the lessons in the self-learning modules.
