Sons of Anarchy brought the stories of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and the title club to an end, but a couple of SoA characters have shown up in the spinoff series, Mayans M.C.Sons of Anarchy took viewers to the fictional town of Charming, California, and showed them the world of motorcycle clubs through the title one. Over the course of seven seasons, Jax and the club go through many ups and downs and gain allies and enemies, among them the Mayans club.

The Mayans were recurring characters in Sons of Anarchy, and the club and its members became the lead characters in the spinoff series Mayans M.C. The series is set two-and-a-half years after the events of SoA and follows Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes (J.D. Pardo), a Mayans prospect, and his many struggles as he seeks revenge after his family's American dream was destroyed by a cartel. Although the title gang is the main focus of the series, several SoA characters appear in Mayans, including one that was killed in the final season.

Sons of Anarchy: Every SAMCRO Member Who Survived The Show

The Sons of Anarchy club went through a lot of changes in seven seasons, and only a couple of members were still alive at the end of the show.

Marcus Alvarez

Played By Emilio Rivera

Sons of Anarchy's Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) was introduced in the original show as the President of the Mayans Oakland charter, but his role within the club went through a major change in Mayans M.C. In Sons of Anarchy season 5, Alvarez agreed to take over SAMCRO's business with the Galindo Cartel, and in the Mayans M.C. cast, he became Miguel Galindo's adviser, stepping down as the Mayans' President. After the Galindo Cartel disbanded, Alvarez returned as President of the Mayans in season 4 but was voted out by a unanimous decision.

As the Sons of Anarchy character who introduced the Mayans M.C. into the show, it was expected that Alvarez would have a large role to play in the spinoff. In the end, Alvarez appeared in more episodes of Mayans M.C. than he did on Sons of Anarchy. With 48 total episodes, he was a much more substantial part of the spinoff with deep, complex arcs and storylines he didn't receive on the original show.

Chibs Telford

Played By Tommy Flanagan

Adding to the SoA characters in Mayans is Filip "Chibs" Telford (Tommy Flanagan), the current President of Sons of Anarchy's SAMCRO who took over after Jax met Mr. Mayhem at the end of the show. Chibs stood out throughout Sons of Anarchy as he’s one of SAMCRO's most loyal members, and he was always ready to fight for Jax and the club.

Although Mayans M.C. is all about the title club, its links and proximity to SAMCRO make it inevitable for the Sons to be mentioned and for some of its members to show up, especially the President. Chibs appeared in Mayans M.C. when he tried to make a gun deal with the Mayans and the Vatos Malditos, which led to a war between the Mayans and the Sons. It was a nice way of showing fans that Chibs was still at the head of the club and seemed to be a sensible leader.

When the deal begins to go south, Chibs is the one who can calm the nerves and get everyone thinking rationally again. It was a leadership role he didn't get to flex much on Sons of Anarchy. Chibs appears in one episode of Mayans M.C. season 2 and gets some sizeable scenes. However, when asked if he was going to appear again, Flanagan was quick to reject the idea and seems to have moved on from the role (via Deadline).

Tig Trager

Played By Kim Coates

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (2)

Tig Trager (Kim Coates) went through the best character development in Sons of Anarchy, going from an impulsive and aggressive (but fiercely loyal) member to a major voice of reason within SAMCRO and finally showing his good heart. When Chibs took over as President following Jax’s death, Tig became Vice President of SAMCRO, a position he still holds by the time of the events of Mayans M.C.

Tig made a surprise appearance in the Mayans M.C. cast in the season 4 finale, where he met with Alvarez to discuss a truce between the Sons and the Mayans, with Tig telling him he would speak with Chibs about ending the war. Tig gets only two scenes in his appearance in the season 4 episode, but they are solid ones that show his dark side as well as how he's changed. The extended scene of him and Alvarez talking about the loved ones they have lost is particularly effective.

Happy Lowman

Played By David Labrava

Happy Lowman (David Labrava) is one of the most fearless and dangerous, but also caring members of SAMCRO, as well as the club’s Sgt-at-Arms since Chibs became President. Of all the SoA characters in Mayans, Happy is the Sons of Anarchy character who has appeared the most frequently in Mayans M.C., where it was revealed that he was the one who killed EZ’s mother.

Happy was later sent by Chibs to run the SAMDINO charter (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, San Bernardino) when their President, Les Packer (Robert Patrick), had to go through chemotherapy, but he was sent back to SAMCRO at some point after getting in trouble with the law.

Happy is featured in eight episodes of Mayans M.C., ranging from small cameos where he has one or two lines to a larger role where he has an even meatier than what he did on Sons of Anarchy. This ultimately leads to him being killed by EZ and Angel in a death that many fans found forced and disrespectful to the character.

Gemma Teller-Morrow

Played By Katey Sagal

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (5)

Gemma Teller-Morrow (Katey Sagal) was Jax’s mother, who was killed by her own son in Sons of Anarchy season 7 after he discovers that she was behind the death of his wife, Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff). Up until that point, Gemma was one of the most central characters on the show, which spent a lot of time on her flawed relationship with Jax and powerful role in the club itself. Gemma appeared in Mayans M.C. in a brief flashback.

In the flashback, Gemma was visiting a SAMCRO member at Stockton prison and met EZ, who was serving time. Gemma's cameo occurs in the pilot episode of the spinoff series, with creatives likely hoping to strengthen the connection between the two shows. Interestingly, it is an uncredited cameo with Gemma not even getting a single line to say.

Chuckie

Played By Michael Ornstein

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (6)

Charles “Chuckie” Marstein (Michael Ornstein) is a one-of-a-kind character. As a friend of SAMCRO member Otto (Kurt Sutter), SAMCRO protected Chuckie when he was released from prison, but they gave him to the Lin Triad. Chuckie was a compulsive masturbator, which led Henry Lin to cut off all but his index fingers. Chuckie became a friend and ally of SAMCRO, but at some point after the events of Sons of Anarchy, he was won by the Mayans in a card game, so he started working at their junkyard.

While it is a bit of a silly way to get Chuckie into the show, he was able to fall into a similar role as he did on Sons of Anarchy. He becomes a comedic recurring character on Mayans M.C.during its first two seasons, appearing in 13 episodes in total. Chuckie fell in love with an unknown character off-screen and moved to Ohio following season 2, giving the character an unexpected happy ending.

Lincoln Potter

Played By Ray McKinnon

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (7)

One of Sons of Anarchy’s villains returned in Mayans M.C.: Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon). Potter was a U.S. Attorney who set his sights on SAMCRO with the intention of taking them down, and he was not overly concerned with doing it by legal means either. Potter was stopped in Sons of Anarchy his investigation by the Galindo Cartel. The attorney returned in Mayans M.C., where he shifted his focus from SAMCRO to the Mayans, the Galindo Cartel, and Los Olvidados.

Lincoln Potter’s role in the Mayans M.C. cast was a lot bigger than in Sons of Anarchy, as he has served as a main antagonist in every season. He appeared in 17 episodes over Mayans M.C.'s five-season run, right up until the end. However, his character changed drastically between the two shows with Potter being a more nuanced and complex antagonist in Sons of Anarchy while he devolved into a stereotypical villain in Mayans M.C.

Les Packer

Played By Robert Patrick

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (8)

Les Packer is the President of SAMDINO, and had two brief appearances in Sons of Anarchy. In Mayans M.C., Packer was called by Alvarez to have SAMDINO provide additional support to the Mayans’ Santo Padre charter. He met with the Swole Boys in season 2, and in Mayans M.C. season 3 it was revealed that Packer was diagnosed with cancer, and the hospital where he was being treated was guarded by members of the Sons of Anarchy.

Despite Robert Patrick being one of the better-known guest stars on either show, his character is never given a lot to do even though he establishes his toughness with the material he's given. However, it is interesting to see his arc in Mayans M.C. as it is confirmed in the final season that he passed away, making him one of the few characters in the show to die from natural causes.

Rane Quinn

Played By Rusty Coones

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (9)

Rane Quinn (Rusty Coones) is a former member of the Indian Hills charter and President of the Nomad charter, who joined SAMCRO in Sons of Anarchy season 6. Quinn was a background character in Sons of Anarchy and his role didn’t grow in his Mayans M.C. appearances. In the spin-off, he first arrived at the Mayans’ clubhouse with Happy in season 1 and later accompanied Chibs in season 2 when discussing a deal with the Mayans.

Quinn barely has any lines and makes very little impact in his first three appearances on Mayans M.C. However, Coones does add some authenticity to both shows despite his small role, as he is one of several real-life Hells Angels members on Sons of Anarchy. He does get a little more to do in his final appearance, as Quinn is confronted by Alvarez only to show respect for his former associate and choose not to retaliate.

Allesandro Montez

Played By Jacob Vargas

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (10)

Allesandro Montez (Jacob Vargas) was a member of the Sons of Anarchy Reno charter who joined SAMCRO at the same time as Quinn, as they were recruited by Bobby Munson. He was central in some major moments in the original series, aiding in the takedown of Clay Morrow and helping Jax track down Gemma, eventually leading to her death. After Jax’s death and Chibs becoming President, Montez became Road Captain.

Appearing in six episodes of Mayans M.C., Vargas has another important role to play. He accompanies Chibs when he meets with the Mayans to discuss the gun deal while also setting up a sitdown between the Mayans and the Vatos Malditos. Unfortunately, Montez is killed, and his body is found on Mayan property, triggering a conflict between the Sons of Anarchy and the Mayans.

Oscar “El Oso” Ramos

Played By Ivo Nandi

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (11)

Oscar “El Oso” Ramos (Ivo Nandi) was the President of the Mayans’ Stockton charter and had a bigger role in Mayans M.C. than in Sons of Anarchy. He was introduced in the final season of Sons of Anarchy as one of the Rey De Los Mayas, aka "Kings of the Mayans." However, he left before the end of the series to join the cartel, which sets up his return in Mayans M.C.

Unlike some appearances of SoA characters in Mayans M.C., which felt shoehorned in, Ramos' connection to the gang and the cartel world actually made sense. Unfortunately, Ramos’ time in the Mayans M.C. cast came to an end in season 3, when a corrupt officer of the Stockton Police Department, O’Grady (John Pirruccello), picked him up and delivered him to EZ, who executed him. Ramos became the first character to survive Sons of Anarchy only to be killed in Mayans M.C.

Wendy Case

Played By Drea de Matteo

Every Sons Of Anarchy Character Who Has Appeared In Mayans M.C. (12)

Wendy Case, Jax Teller's ex-wife from Sons of Anarchy, is the mother of his first son, Abel. She has a troubled time over the course of the original series, battling drug addiction and being kept from her son for a long time. However, she grew to be a more responsible person and achieved sobriety, suggesting that she was a better parent than Jax in the end. Although she was last seen in the series finale, she reappeared in Mayans M.C. nine years later.

Here, she aided EZ in realizing that to make others comprehend his actions, he must confide in them first. Wendy and Jax both had their flaws and struggled to sustain their bond, and as EZ and Jax share many similarities, this made Wendy more empathetic towards EZ, as she recognized EZ's difficulty in expressing his emotions constructively. While Wendy's appearance in the penultimate Mayans M.C. episode relies heavily on coincidence, it makes for a touching couple of scenes and it's also nice to see that she has found peace in the end.
