Dog Lake 303 Road Decommissioning Project

Draft Environmental Assessment

The Fremont-Winema National Forest Lakeview Ranger District is releasing, for a 30-day comment period, the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Dog Lake 303 Road Decommissioning Project. The project is located east of Dog Lake, approximately 19 miles southwest of the town of Lakeview (legal location Sections 22, 27, and 33-34 of T40S, R17E; Lake County, Oregon). The project’s proposed action is to decommission 5.1 miles of Forest System Roads to reduce disturbance to nesting bald eagles within the Dog Lake Bald Eagle Management Area.

The draft EA is open for public comment pursuant to 36 CFR 218, Subpart A. Comments to these documents must be in writing and, per 36 CFR 218.2, specific written comments should be within the scope of the proposed action, have a direct relationship to the proposed action, and must include supporting reasons for the responsible official to consider. Ther comments must include the commenter’s name and address, with telephone number if applicable; a signature or other verification of authorship; identification of a lead commenter, if multiple names are listed in the comments; the name of the project being commented on; the name and title of the responsible official; and the Forest and Ranger District on which the project will be implemented. Only those persons or entities who submit timely and specific written comments regarding this project are eligible to file an objection during the future objection period.

Within 30 days of the date of this legal notice, all comments must be postmarked, electronically stamped, or hand delivered to the responsible official; Curtis Yocum, Acting District Ranger, Lakeview and Bly Ranger Districts, ATTN: NEPA Planning, 18049 Highway 395, Lakeview, OR 97630; faxed to (541) 947-6399; or sent electronically to comments-pacificnorthwest-fremont-winema@usda.gov. Hand deliveries must be made between 7:45AM and 4:30PM Monday through Friday, except holidays. Electronic comments must be submitted only to the email address shown above as part of the body of the email message, or as an attachment in Microsoft Word, rich text format (rtf), or Adobe portable document format (pdf) only. Emails in other formats or containing viruses will be rejected. Note in the subject line the name of the project and that it is a comment. For electronically mailed documents, the sender should normally receive an automated electronic acknowledgement from the agency as confirmation of receipt. If the sender does not receive an automated acknowledgement of the receipt of their comments, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure timely receipt by other means. The publication date of this legal notice is the exclusive means for calculating the time to submit comments, and those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. It is the responsibility of all individuals and organizations to ensure their comments are received in a timely manner.
